Naperville Newborn Photographer | Heartfelt

Every newborn session is memorable. After all, I have been entrusted to create one of the most important times in a life – that of a new baby, the creation of a family, the adding to love and siblings. And while I enjoy snuggling and getting my baby fixes with every baby, this little guy was certainly one to remember.

Scars are Nothing to Hide

It has been a full year since this session, and I can still recall it. You see, this was my first newborn who had had open heart surgery. I have had babies who are older with that scar, but none so young. None where I needed to be sure to not lift him under his arms and to not pull his arms away from his body. It sounds scary, but he was such a good baby that really there was no concern at all. Mom and I watched him for any sign of discomfort to make sure we were not putting stress on that area. I asked if they wanted me to “hide” the scars through clothing or posing. This is a personal choice, and I try to ask clients if there is a large scar. I’m glad they didn’t want to hide it. This little one is certainly a fighter and can wear his scars proudly.

But as you can see, we don’t see the belly that often in most pictures. I show this because some clients worry about the cord still being attached or an umbilical hernia. It might show in one or two images, but not the majority.

And I pretty much never let babies be naked with siblings. This cute big brother was so sweet.

I try to create art pieces that can go in the baby’s nursery or in the home, so I ask for colors and themes. This baby had an aviation themed nursery, so this image was perfect for it.

We weren’t sure if he would do okay in a basket with not pulling his arms up, but he did beautifully!
