When Dogs Are Family | Naperville Photographer
If you don’t follow my work or know me, maybe you didn’t know that I am a big dog person. I’m the type of person you will not remember your name, but I will remember your dog’s name. LOL There has to be a condition for that, right??
So when a client wants to include their dogs, I jump at the chance! Now for this client, I had already met their giant Great Danes several times, as I have photographed them for commercial work for her business. But this was the first time I got to meet the people behind the dogs.
With small dogs, people can just hold on to them. With “regular” sized dogs, we try to get them to sit and hide the leashes. But what do you do when you have small horses for dogs?? LOL Well, you basically follow their lead. But we also wanted some pictures without them, which meant I held onto those beasts while also holding my camera. I believe “chaos” or “circus” would be an apt description of how it was behind the scenes. But who cares when you get to have a beautiful picture on the other end!
When we do family portraits, I make sure to do breakouts of couples and individuals, too. And this family would be nothing without mom and dad!
We got one more layout with everyone – the family plus significant others. The big boys – I’m referring to the dogs, fyi – sat well for us here.
But let’s end this walk down memory lane with one of dad and his boys. Family pictures aren’t just the one picture of the whole group.
There are so many great locations for photoshoots around here, and it is my job to find the great spots that are just right for your needs and your vision. So if we are including dogs, I make sure we go to somewhere that is dog friendly.
