The desire to build a family, to add a child – it changes everything. No longer do our own wishes and plans come first. There are sleepless nights, helplessness when we can’t stop the baby from crying, and frustration. But these are such minor things compared to the amazing, inexplicable love that comes along with these small bundles. And when parents have chosen adoption, my heart swells for them and their children because I know how much their desire must have grown during the long adoption process, waiting for the day to hold their child, to create their family.
I’m going to admit, I was very hesitant about doing this session. You see, this beautiful baby was already 5.5 weeks old when I met him. While he was born at 37 weeks, that still makes him a couple weeks old gestationally. But he was in the NICU for the first five weeks of his life, and he had just come home a few days before we met. These poor parents were working on very little sleep. Their boy only likes to sleep in short spurts, so they are in the thralls of sleep deprivation. But hopefully seeing these beautiful pictures of their new baby will fill them with joy and keep them sane during the sleepless nights.
Oh, and they brought their first baby along for the session – a beautiful czech German Sherpherd. She behaved wonderfully, and I love this first image on the bed because she really did just lay her head down on her momma like that. No PhotoShopping involved! And I loved daddy and baby’s matchign bow ties.
