If you have ten photographers take pictures of the same subject at the same location, they will look like ten different pictures. The camera settings they use, the lens choice, natural lighting versus off camera lighting, then there is editing. All of these things matter and help to create a photographer’s personal style. It should be the number one reason you chose a photographer.

 

Look at a photographer’s images – there should be a solid background showing experience with many different clients in different settings and climates. Then once you look at a large selection of their work, is it consistent in terms of quality? If you look at their work and some are great but many others are meh, then you have to know your own images may fall in that category, too.

 

There are no guarantees when it comes to art – and that is what photography is – but the more experience a photographer has, the more of their work they can show you, and the stronger your faith in their work.

 

Your photographer should be able to find just the right locations to fit what you want. That being said, a photographer has their own style, or at least they should. If you have inspiration photos that look nothing like your photographer’s, you cannot expect them to match. A photographer will more likely see your inspiration images and discuss what you like about them, but still apply their own style.
