New Year New You! | Chicago Headshot Photographer
Happy New Year to you all! As we welcome in 2026, most people make resolutions like being healthier or doing something they’ve always wanted. For most people, getting new headshots is not top of their list for things they WANT to do. Granted, every now and then, people love sitting for headshots, but most people treat it like going to the dentist – a necessary evil. LOL

I promise that getting updated headshots is far less painful, though! Time for me to step on my high horse and give you all a lecture. This is not as a Chicago headshot photographer, but as a business person. If you are using a headshot that is older than three years, that is TOO OLD! You do not look like that anymore. Update it. Nothing is worse than meeting someone and seeing they haven’t updated their headshot in decades. It isn’t professional.

Let’s talk more about being professional, or being perceived as professional. Your industry does dictate the appropriate look that is expected and acceptable to represent yourself. For many, it is the traditional studio headshot with a variety of color options in the background, from corporate grey to modern white or many options in between.

For others, it is something more casual outdoors. Lighting also can make things different from one to the other.

What’s most important is that you look like you, and you look good. Do you look approachable? Oh, you know how I said nothing is worse than having an outdated headshot? I lied, there is one thing worse – having an UNPROFESSIONAL headshot on your business website! Seriously people! Stop putting up pictures that are obviously taken with a cell phone with zero thought to lighting or posing. When people come to your website and see you represented that way, it not only makes you look not professional, but it also makes your business look bad.
