My Own | Chicago – Naperville Child Photographer

It is such a sad state of affairs that I have to actually schedule time to take my own children’s pictures, but that is the way it is.  My son, Campbell, turned six last month, and I was waiting and waiting for his tooth to fall out before taking his pictures because it was sticking out and goofy looking.

I’ve said before that my daughter is the most difficult thing in the world to photograph, but my son is no walk in the park, either.  Having Aspergers’ Syndrome, getting good eye contact from him is next to impossible – a common problem when photographing those on the autism spectrum.  Even though he locks on to you when he is talking, when I talk to him, or bring out a camera, his eyes dart all around, and it is next to impossible for him to look right at the camera with a normal expression.  It is definitely an exercise in patience and trickery.

In all honesty, I don’t mind the lack of eye contact as long as I get his beautiful smile, but I do like a couple to show his gorgeous eyes, too.  Since it takes my husband to also get him to smile and laugh naturally, this was a family event.

Happy belated birthday to the most precious boy in the world.  Mine.

I love the relationship that these pictures show.  It is their true playfulness.  Campbell adores his little sister.

And in case you wanted to see my whole family – here is the picture that will be going on our Christmas cards this year.  It certainly is more accurate than one of us all smiling nicely.
