Chicago Newborn Photographer, Hinsdale Newborn Photographer | #2

So very tiny.  This little guy arrived a bit early, but is perfectly happy, even though he is such a little guy.  Still under six pounds when I met him, he was just teeny.  🙂  Who knows what he will look like when I see him next for his six month session.  I didn’t even recognize his big brother, who I hadn’t seen since his one year pictures.  He is now a gorgeous blonde, rambunctious two-and-a-half year old who was not interested in being still.  LOL  ‘Tis the age!

I always do family pictures first for two reasons.  First, the studio is hot for newborn sessions, and if I photograph the parents first, at least they won’t have melted, yet.  And second, for young siblings, a newborn session is way too long, and they can go out with daddy down to the riverwalk, out to eat, to the library, bookstore, or even take a trip to the DuPage Children’s Museum.   It is just too long for little kids to stay put, especially when the focus isn’t on them.

So we started with the whole family, and thankfully got a really nice one in.

I think this next picture showcases exactly what it is like to move from one to two children. LOL  A bit of chaos, but I actually really like the picture, because it is very real as the big brother just would not sit and instead climbed all over mommy.

I got to use my new candy store set up for these guys – finally, something to keep the toddler’s interest – jelly beans!

And then it was time for just the new baby brother, who was so perfectly sleepy.

He did briefly wake for a moment to show me those big eyes.

It is important to schedule newborn pictures as soon as the baby is born in order to get them in the studio as early as possible.  The ideal time to photograph a newborn is the first week of life whenever possible.  The younger they are, the longer and harder they sleep, which allows me to get a better variety of poses.  Also, the younger they are, the more they still like to curl up like they were in the womb.  Somewhere around three weeks, babies like to keep their legs out and straight and do not want to be bent and will fight being posed.  Some parents worry about the cord showing.  I would like to point out that the cord is not shown in many pictures, and when it is, it isn’t the focus.  And personally, I think having the cord in pictures just shows how “new” the newborn really is.
