Fine Art Dog Portraits | Chicago Dog Photographer
Yes, Firefly Nights Photography is internationally known for our senior, athlete, and creative work, but did you know we also love doing fine art portraits? I totally love doing fine art portraits of people, but I also love doing them of dogs!! You have to know by now that I am a big dog person. I love when families include their dogs in our sessions. But fine art portraits are a different thing. These are for people who consider their dogs an important part of their family, worthy of their own photoshoot.
On this day, I had the pleasure of photographing these standard poodle siblings.

If you are wondering what makes a picture fine art as opposed to something else, fine art tends to be done in studio with a simple background, moody expressions. Think of classic oil paintings from the time when wealthy nobles sat for their painted portraits. It is rarely a smiley portrait, so these serious dogs were perfect for me. His dark coat is highlighted with my lighting, showing his curly coat, structure, and beautiful tawny eyes.

But, of course, I also provided close up portraits for the owner, as well. I love seeing the texture of his coat.

While I said fine art portraits tend to be moody or serious, these are dogs, and of course I’m going to get happy pictures of them, as well. Totally different personalities when you see them smiling, right? Which do you like more?

Do you have a beloved pet that deserves its own place on your walls? Look no further! Firefly Nights Photography welcomes your pooch to our studio (or us to your home). We are located in downtown Naperville but welcome clients from all over Chicago.
