Strong | Downers Grove photographer

There are many good Chicago senior photographers around. Of course I think I am up there with the good ones. But one thing I feel super confident in saying is I ROCK athletes. Many of my international awards are for my athlete work. I think it draws a lot of my seniors to me because of my unique and edgy style for them.

I’m going to write this blog post backwards. Usually, I start with the “normal” pictures, but this time I want to start with the athlete portion of this Downers Grove North senior, because I still remember it like it was yesterday. She is still the only tumbler I have photographed, which was so cool to go to their gym. I’ve photographed plenty of gymnasts before, but I did not know what I was in for with tumbling! And this girl was ranked nationally, so what a treat for me!

 

For the most part, I just darkened or removed the other equipment in the background for these as she went high up into the air.

 

But this amazing athlete wasn’t just a tumbler! She was also a track runner for her school, specifically the hurdles – Downers Grove North. Again, I almost always shoot my athletes in studio and create the dynamic images digitally, but we went 100% authentic and real for her by going to the track and sunrise. Yes, I got up stupid early for this.

 

Man, that was a fun session. But wait, there was an entire separate part of her session with me – shot on a different day. Hard to believe that within this smiley blond hides a fierce warrior.

 

We also went for the big skies and open field look for her. While this looks fake, it wasn’t. When I bring out my own lights to combat the sun, this is what you get.

 

Spotting some beautiful wildflowers, she got to have everything for her senior session with me!
