What Does Your Images Say About You? | Chicago Photographer

What do your images say about you? I’m talking about professionally? Every business has a website, and I don’t know any business that doesn’t have images on their site. Granted, some may just use stock images (boo!), but your website is ABSOLUTELY judged based on its appearance. That whole adage, “Don’t judge a book by its cover” is just not how human beings work. We absolutely judge on covers. We are visual animals whose evolution has trained our brains to make snap decisions and judgements based on what we see. Is that food safe to eat? Is that animal sick? Is that person crying or laughing?

Your visual presentation matters.

Enter me! Ok, well, enter professional photographers, but I’m only here to talk about me. LOL Because you are going to hire me, right?

Yes, headshots are part of your company’s visual identity. If clients and external people can find your internal headshots, they better be professional. Why would someone hire someone who looks like they took a selfie? And let’s also talk about the importance of visual cohesion. If you have multiple headshots visible on the same page, they better look like they go together. Meaning, please have everyone do headshots with the same photographer to match.

Team pictures – they should reflect how you want to be seen by clients. Are you professional? Are you intimidating? Are you welcoming? Do you look like someone people would want to work with?

Do you have a business where people will be coming to you – like a dentist office? Be sure your pictures show your business in an inviting way that makes your space look awesome. Many people are intimidated by dentists, so showing him and the client smiling helps ease fears.

And headshots don’t all have to be the same. But please don’t have some employees with studio backdrops and then some outside. It really looks bad.  But I do love outdoor headshots, and they are perfect for businesses where there is more client contact and communication. It is less stiff and more personable.

Last little note – if you wear glasses, glare can be an issue. Make sure your photographer knows how to work with glasses and lighting.
