What is a sportrait? Have you ever heard the coined term for athlete or sport portraits? They are edgy and dynamic images of heightened reality.

 

I mean, it’s not like I really lit the ball and net on fire! LOL But this girl was smoking! lol The point of my Athlete Minis is to showcase the intensity, the drive, the GRIT of athletes in their chosen sport.

 

Sportraits are one of my best skillsets. I win awards a lot with my athlete images. The ones in this blog post are from my winter Athlete Minis a couple years ago. But I also include athlete minis as part of my senior sessions.

 

When I do these sessions, I want the athletes feeling amazing – and looking even better! I don’t allow any smiles at all…typically.  My only exclusion to the rule is for cheerleaders and dancers. And before you say anything, yes, that is a musician included in this series. Technically, we also did some swim pictures for that senior, but being a musician was equally as important, and I feel very strongly about band and orchestra kids being represented like the studs they are. Yes, I age myself. I know!

Whether we are showing them in a cool pose or in action, the sportraits are eye catching and Wow! When we do the action shots, there is a lot of me saying “Ok, and do it again!” because I missed that perfect millisecond, or someone’s eyes are closed, or their face looks wonky as they jump or throw a ball, etc.  Little did they realize they leave the session feeling like they had a workout. lol

 

Because it isn’t enough to just do a move right, it has to also LOOK good, too. Swimmers are definitely a specialty of mine since I was a swimmer once upon a time.
