What’s in a headshot? | Naperville Photographer

Yes, I do tons of headshots, and yes, most look similar. They are what you think of when you think of a business headshot. But that does not mean all headshots are equal, or that all headshots are actually just headshots.

Confused? LOL

What I mean by that is that for my “headshot session”, you may want a traditional headshot like this one.

There is zero wrong with this. I love it! It’s lit beautifully and classic. This is a great picture for a corporate business headshot (which this was for a law firm). Now, for this same company, they decided to offer a different approach and do both normal headshots and 3/4 business portraits like the below. Which do you like better? Neither is better than the other, but they have a different vibe. The pulled back version is a bit more casual.

Ok, so let’s totally change lanes. From a corporate need to a small business. For this client, we actually did a branding session, which allowed for more variety. I don’t think I need to say what she does, do I? LOL

And while she needed a picture of her doing her thing, she also needed a headshot for her About Me page. But instead of a traditional crop, we wanted to present her as approachable and casual, someone you want to work with in your quest for health.

Now, let’s TOTALLY change gears. True, there is no way I can categorize these as headshots. They absolutely are not. BUT they ARE branding images. This was for a fitness and health coach. We did “normal” pictures, too. Well, sort of normal. LOL We did some of her in her kitchen with a bunch of healthy food. But as part of her site, she wanted pictures of her doing what she loves and being active and healthy. She is an avid hiker. Of course I was up for creating something spectacular with her!

And here is one more, because it was so much fun. Reach for your goals!

So what do headshots mean to you? What does your business need? Who are your clients? People are visual by nature – make sure your website and your pictures represent you!
