Grown Up | Naperville Photographer
As my own kids get older (I wish time would just slow down a bit…or a lot!), I realize how important family portraits are. Not just when the kids are little and are your whole world, because that doesn’t last nearly as long as it should. Soon enough, they are graduating high school, then graduating college and starting their own families! Time, that evil thief, steals those little laughs. But our kids never stop being our kids or our family. The shape of the family changes and grows, and we as parents watch as our babies start their own families.
They never stop being our family, so don’t make the last family portraits that you have up in your home be like a decade old! I normally would start with a picture of the whole family, but I absolutely love this black and white of this couple. I had them snuggling in and then told him to sniff her like she smells, and they cracked up. I am not normally a black and white photographer at all, but this one called for it.
So let’s get to the full family! It was the mom who hired me to do this session since her boys were both going to be in town with their lady loves. I say it like that because I can’t remember if one was a girlfriend. I know one was engaged, but this is what happens when I let too much time go between the session and blogging.
I believe we were getting close to the holiday season, so the weather was cold, which makes me so grateful to have a beautiful studio as an option for families. So getting these adult brothers together like this is a treat for the parents.
And these girls were entering the family, so it was wonderful to get to include them in these pictures. Brothers and future sisters-in-laws!
But let’s get back to the full family. This is sort of how I run extended family sessions. I do a few different poses for the full groups, then couples and different breakouts.
And let’s end this walk down memory lane with one of this couple. Based on her ring, they were at least engaged. LOL
We are in the heat of summer, which makes it easy to find beautiful outdoor locations, but the studio is always an option for families, as well. When you are ready to think about scheduling your family portraits, we hope you check out more of our work in our Family Gallery then contact us!
