Chicago Newborn Photographer | sweetie

The best part of being a Chicago newborn photographer located in Naperville is that so many families can reach me! When you live in Chicagoland, you are used to commuting for things. It can take 25 minutes to get from one side of Naperville to another, so traveling between towns and cities in the burbs or even from the city, is really no biggie.

I’m a very fortunate photographer to have an actual studio for the past almost 13 years! And with it being in the heart of downtown Naperville, it is a destination, making it easy for those who travel to make a day of it. Plenty of great restaurants within walking distance. So why choose Firefly Nights Photography as your Chicago newborn photographer? Well, I would say my number one selling feature is creativity and uniqueness.

If you don’t follow me, you may not know that I am a BIG dog person. lol  I love dogs, and I love including your fur babies with sessions, so when this family asked if they could do a few pictures with their first baby and their newborn, I was all for it. This chair is hands down my favorite chair.  I have tons of flowers stored and used double-sided tape to adhere them all to the chair for this little newborn girl. Their little pup was very obedient and just laid there. I have my tricks and usually say “key words” to get a dog’s attention, so the ears are perked.  The parents loved this image of their two girls.

But not every image is over the top. I like to do what I term “blanket pictures” where parents choose 2-3 colors of my blankets, and these pictures are to really focus on the baby. This dusty rose color is one of my favorites. It is such a beautifully soft color that makes every skin color creamy.

We went from pink to dove grey. I have a basket full of headbands that I go through depending on the colors that are chosen. I also have countless wraps that are color coordinated. I love creating some interesting placement and design with them. My goal is to provide newborn art.

One of the cornerstones of creating art is creating those “wow” images. With me, sometimes I create over the top sets or designs or whatnot. But once I have created it and photographed it, I store it for future use, so I can move faster and reuse my efforts. This white swing is easy to customize with different flowers or moss or whatever! And another thing to note is that babies are always safe. While I am a Chicago newborn photographer, I am an expert editor. So, no, a baby is NEVER actually suspended in air. I had this swing on a table with mom standing right to the side and a hand on her, to which I just edit mom and the table out.

But most important is getting those close up pictures of that perfect face. It is almost impossible to remember how tiny our babies are during those first few weeks. Heck, even by the time they are six months old, you won’t remember these days. That is why it is so important to do newborn pictures.  You can’t get this time back. It is such a short window, and with all the heightened emotions and sleep deprivation, parents truly will not be able to recall all the details of these early days.

Let me end with a prop picture. I don’t like to do too many in a session, as they take a lot of time, but I do love these images where I shoot from directly above. Just look at that little snuggle bug!
