A Girl and Her Horse | Naperville Senior Photographer
Oh to harken back to this senior session. I am just now amping up for the 2025 senior session, so I love being able to share just what a senior session should be. Being a Naperville senior photographer means I get people from all over Chicago. This Naperville North senior was a horse lover. It was late fall for our session, and she wanted the beautiful, vibrant fall colors. I like people to understand that forests don’t tend to have vibrant colors. Those are more the maples and other trees that are more found in landscaped areas and not natural woods. In the woods, you will find mostly yellows. On this day, we also had some deep oranges that looked beautiful against her blonde hair.
She was a casual girl who was so photogenic. And the best part was that she didn’t see herself as that. I love showing people just how beautiful they are. While we choose settings to highlight what my clients want, I also want to just focus on them. Nothing beats a great close up.
I like seniors to have two to three outfits. I don’t think sessions should just be a fashion show, showing off clothes. I want to show off the person! This is one of my favorites from this session. I told her she was just stunning. Along with having a couple of different outfits, I also want to show the different parts of their personalities. I always love when someone rocks a serious expression. I, personally, can’t. lol
This particular location is always one of my favorites, though they have completely changed aspects of it, so it isn’t nearly as wooded. But no worries, I have other wooded spots if that is what you like!
So, we finished up that session for the day, but we were going to get back together on another day, because we had big plans. A major part of this senior’s life was her horse! She’s not my first horse loving senior. and I’ve learned how to work with these big beasts. Almost always, I can’t use my strobe lights because it makes the horses way to nervous. We met at the stable and did a lot of different pictures, but this was my favorite. I feel this cowgirl looks like an ad for visiting Montana or something! LOL
I liked doing it on a separate day so she could have her hair different and just be fresh on another day. It was really cold, and there was frost on the ground, but editing out a red nose is no big deal to get the right shot! I want to incorporate a senior’s passions into their sessions whenever we can. It means so much to them and helps encapsule what made them “them” as they look back at this time in their lives.
