Fall Mini Sessions | Naperville Photographer

Boy, when you are so far behind in your blogging, it is a real trip down memory lane as I pulled up these images from one of annual Fall Mini session. These are mini sessions we hold every fall to take advantage of the beautiful fall colors. We try to plan them at the height of our Midwest autumn colors. You never know what the weather will be – could be freezing and windy, could be gorgeous. Some years we have almost no color, and other years everything is vibrant!

This was one of those years where we lost leaves early and hadn’t had much in terms of color.

I literally drive all over looking for good color. I don’t like to use the same location twice in a row, so I’m always looking for somewhere new. I spotted just a couple trees with vibrant color here and new this would work. It was a random spot, which I love because that means it isn’t overrun by other photographers.

This spot turned out to be a gem. Not only did it have a beautifully red tree in the background for me, but it also had variety in terms of posing spots.  We had this great boulder which I loved for the families.

We also had a covered spot with pretty brick columns for some standing pictures.

Then on the back side were these stone steps. It only worked once the sun was on its way down, otherwise people would be facing the sun, which is always a no no for me.

When you think about what to wear for fall family pictures, a lot of these families nailed it. You have to remember how vibrant nature can be. I love jewel tones with fall colors. The only thing I really don’t like is too much black.

Doing family mini sessions, these are only 15 minutes long. We do a few pictures at each spot and do a variety with family, siblings, parents, and individuals.

Believe it or not, but 15 minutes is plenty of time! The goal isn’t to get a large gallery, but only around 5-7 or so to choose from.

And the best part of mini sessions is that they are short and sweet. Anyone can last 15 minutes, even the most annoyed dads. LOL

On this year, we were in luck that it was a sunny day. I actually usually prefer an overcast day, so I can pose people any way I want. With such bright sun, I need to keep families in the shade or with the sun behind them.

The other great part of our fall mini sessions is that it is less expensive than our full sessions. So if you want a session with Firefly Nights Photography but it is out of budget, this may be a great option.

Every year, these mini sessions sell out quickly. I announce them in the beginning of August. If you want a slot, you need to act quickly.

If you want to make sure you don’t miss out on our specials, you can sign up for our newsletter. I also announce all specials on our Facebook page.

I also try to keep my website up to date with current specials, but I’m not great about keeping that up to date. If you are looking for a beautiful family portrait to put up on your walls, look out for our Fall Colors Mini Sessions this upcoming year.
