Family Portraits | Naperville Family Photographer

Who is your Naperville family photographer?  Assuming it isn’t me?  Do you have one you love?  If you aren’t dying to have your family photographed, then it may be time to check out someone else.  You should love the style of your Naperville photographer.  Why do I keep saying Naperville photographer when many of my clients come from all over Chicago – sorry.  I have plenty of clients who travel to me.  Finding a family photographer whose style you love is paramount in deciding who to use.

For family portraits, I tend to go one of two ways – formal in studio or more casual outside.  Not that we can’t mix that up, but my in studio family portraits definitely tend to be more formal, as that is my preference.  This family totally wanted that vibe, which works out great.  While I used to love backdrops that were of places or whatever, I definitely seem to prefer classic backdrops now adays. Styles change and evolve, and so do mine.

I started with this formal wall.  Browns go great against a navy or blue blazer.

But we also did family pictures against a classic light grey backdrop.  When there is nothing to take distract in the background, it really becomes all about the people. I also like to pose and arrange people so that we have visual interest. Using triangles is considering the most visually interesting, like here.   And mixing standing and sitting also gives it a bit of personality.

Of course, we did our individual pictures of the kids.  A classic portrait never goes out of style.

And getting a great, natural smile is one of my specialties?  I’d love to share my secrets, but well, you’ll have to book your own session to hear my horrible jokes.

When I do family portraits, I try to do all sort of arrangements – siblings, parents, individuals, etc.  And many times I get asked to do dad with the kids or dad with his son.  I love that I also got to just do mom and her daughter. I love this picture.  Being a mom, myself, getting to capture any moment when I still get to hug on them fills my soul.
