Naperville Photographer | Class

I always get nervous when I have to have a session at someone’s home – mainly because I don’t know what I’m walking into.  The lighting could be horrible.  The space may not work.  Too much stuff around to make for nice pictures.  It’s always just a toss up on what to expect.  Unless a client is specifically wanting to showcase their home, I usually try to talk them out of it.  But for this client, there was no question – we had to do it there.  You see, when she hired me, the main purpose of the session was to create a piece of art to go in their piano room of her two girls by the piano.  I love when clients have a specific vision in mind.

So I show up, and the house is beautiful.  She had warned me that the piano room was small, and it was.  That created some tricky lighting situations, but I worked it.  Her girls were absolutely stunning in their ivory dresses and makeup.  This is the image they chose for their wall art in that room:

Though this one is my personal favorite.  Clients never choose my favorites.  I swear, it is almost always the case – a parent’s eyes are different than a photographer’s.

We also wanted to get some family pictures.  They made quite the gorgeous, classy family all dressed up.  I love that the father is the only one in a darker color, and the women all are in whites.

Then outside we went. I tend to love entrances… as long as they are not in the sun.  We lucked out with theirs.  And it was nice to get some personality in the girls.  This family looks like a TV show family, they are so good looking!

They also knew they wanted a wall art piece of just the parents together.

This is the one they chose.  This is also part of the piano room.  If you notice in the other images, I used my lights.  But I had an accident before this portion where I dropped my transmitter, and the lights started strobing in quick succession.  I took out the battery, replaced it, and did everything I could, but the light refused to fire at all after that, so we went with natural light as well as the modeling light, since the room was dark.

I am always at the mercy of Murphy’s Law: what can go wrong, will go wrong.  Thankfully, I have enough experience to just keep moving along.  And my lights are fine now. 😉
