I love it when families include their furry family members in family sessions.  And on occasion, I have done full dog sessions in the past.  But this winter, I held our first ever Winter Dog Special in studio.  I wanted to provide classic dog portraits.  Since winter is always my slow season, I figured, why not get people in studio for something different?  And guess what?  It was AWESOME!  Now granted, I got an excuse to get a great picture of my own dog, Phoebe, who I used to advertise the special.  Here she is at 7.5 months:

 

Now, you will notice that my advertisement struck a chord with dog lovers, especially fellow Bernese Mountain Dog lovers.   Many of the people who signed up for this special were past clients, but not all, so it was great to meet some new clients.  My first taker was a fellow Berner owner who had a 10.5 week baby Berner who was possibly the most mellow puppy in the history of puppies. It is greatly unfair, as my own Berner is anything but mellow!

 

Since I was creating classic portraits, I color coordinated backgrounds to the dogs.  I offered three options – the black/grey above, this dark brown one below, and a cream one.  This one was super smiley and easy and did exactly what we asked.

 

 

For most dogs, I offered special treats or made weird sounds to get their attention.  This is Buster – he would be anyone’s buddy.

 

I also referred people to take their pooches on over to Two Bostons, which is just down the block from me, for a special treat after their photo shoot.  If you are a dog lover and live in Naperville, you probably already know about that wonderful store.  Next up we have these two chocolate lab brothers who looked so handsome in profile.  Can you tell them were both eagerly waiting for their treats?

 

But they weren’t the only duo to come into the studio.  We also had these two Bernese Mountain Dog boys.  The older one on the right was not a fan of being in the studio and was nervous, but the puppy was all energy and smiles.

 

We also had these two standard poodles come into the studio.  Because they were so formal and elegant, I decided to do a different background for them and create a vintage look of these classy ladies.

 

Now this one is bitter sweet.  You wouldn’t know it by looking, but this isn’t a puppy – though he looked like it!  He was an old guy had been recently been diagnosed with bad news.  They wanted to make sure to get some good pictures of him, which we did.  But by they time they purchased the images, he had passed away.  🙁  They said they were so grateful to have these beautiful images of him smiling.  He was incredibly sweet.

 

This little guy was a treat!  On the phone, his owner said he was a Puggle, Chihuahua, pekingese mix.  For the life of me, I could not picture what that would look like.  Well – it looks like this adorable guy!  He was so sweet and cute, and his trigger word to get his ear up was, “Want to go to Arby’s?”  LOL  Apparently, he likes their roast beef.

 

I also had this rambunctious West Highland Terrier (Westie) in to see me.  I love his little smile, don’t you?  He looks so happy!

 

We also had this beautiful apricot poodle come in for pictures.  I love looking back over the shoulder.

 

Last but not least was this giant golden doodle.  He was well over 100lbs and almost pure white.  While we also did a great picture of him on the bed, I like this one for something different.
