When I get a call to schedule a session, and I’m told that a child has Autism, I’ll admit – I smile.  I really do love working with children with Autism Spectrum Disorders, and while I may be biased, I really have to say that some of the most joyful, the brightest souls I’ve met have been housed within a child on the spectrum.  And this little guy is one of those souls.  When we first met, I asked if he tended to smile, as he was initially serious and distracted.  They laughed and said he was very smiley, and boy, were they right!  Just bring out dad’s iPhone and play some videos, and he was instantly happy.  His smile seriously lit up everyone who saw him.  And mean…how could he not make you smile?!  Especially with that adorable cap and bow tie.  Ugh, just too cute for words.

This little man is seriously something special. Three years ago this week mom and dad told their families they were expecting twins. Unfortunately, the babies were born at 25 weeks gestation.  One of them survived, and one they had to say goodbye to too soon. It was definitely not what they had expected.   But sometimes in life you have to let go of what you thought you expected to happen and start living in what’s happening.

Will has always been a fighter, born at 1 lb 12 ozs, he had to be! He stayed in the N.I.C.U. For 100 days and came home happy and healthy. Now, he is an amazing, curious, happy, healthy almost 3 year old, full of wisdom beyond his years.  He is autistic or is what they like to say “awe-tastic”. Everyone has there own challenges, and Will always loves a good challenge…It’s just how he rolls!  Will’s love and joy far exceed any expectations they had before. The only thing that they expect now is that every new day with our little guy will become our new favorite day!

And while the autism has him non-verbal at this point, he easily communicates his joy and love to his parents.  Okay, enough sappiness from me, come enjoy this wonderful family.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

They asked if they could do a picture with just mom and dad on a bench.  It is a theme for them, and I was more than happy to oblige.  The next time you have family pictures, make sure the parents get some pictures of just them.
