Kirsten | Chicago Childrens Photographer, Special Needs Photographer
Meet Kirsten! She has Prader-Willi Syndrome, which results in an insatiable appetite that can never be fulfilled, extreme low muscle tone, and delayed development. I had heard of this syndrome before and have a vague memory of some news report talking about how parents had to put locks on the refrigerator to stop their child from eating. That was about all I knew about the condition, and I was so glad to meet Kirsten who showed me that she is just a regular six year old who was THRILLED at being the center of attention. Her brother and twin sister were present, and Kiersten would frequently make sure that I was only going to take pictures of her.
“Miss Megan, watch me swing!” “Miss Megan, come see my room!” “Miss Megan, come with me!” She was a complete delight.
Like I said, Kirsten has very low muscle tone as part of her condition. She didn’t walk until she was three and cannot peddle a bicycle, but she can do plenty of other things. She loves to swing, and she has this really cool plasma scooter, where you use your arms to gain momentum.
The whole family was super sweet and nice, but this was Kirsten’s day. 🙂
