MMA Fighter and Power Lifter | Naperville Fitness Photographer

So you know how I love to do creative things when there is time?  I actually maintain a list of conceptual ideas that I want to do.  The trouble is that there just isn’t enough time to do them all.  So I keep the list, waiting for the right client in hopes they want to do something outside of the box with me.  When I was told this guy was an ex-Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) fighter, I knew I would have fun with him.  Who cares that I have never actually seen an MMA match and have no clue what is appropriate in terms of what they do. LOL  Now adays, he is a professional power lifter.  I have had the pleasure of photographing women and showcasing their musculature, and have obviously photographed high school senior athletes, but I was excited to be able to show that I can rock athletic men, as well.  And yes, I am going to toot my own horn because I did rock this session.  Of course, it helps having a subject like this.  I am so glad he was so easy.  I would have ideas and then ask him to help make it work.

So fighting tells more of a story, so I was naturally more inclined towards those images.  I think this first one may now hold the title of my very favorite image I’ve ever done.  Absolutely LOVE it.  If you are an athlete, a coach, a team, a company – why take everyday pictures when you can have something like this to represent you?

This was the image I knew I wanted to create from the beginning.  I couldn’t be happier with it.  I had to ask lots of questions about the actual cage.

Then it was time to switch gears and work with the weights.  Since it was just he and I, he used weight he was comfortable with on his own.  I was so worried he was going to hurt himself or need my help.

Then we wanted to showcase general fitness photography.  There are so many yoga and fitness businesses out there now.  Wouldn’t it be awesome to use images that are only yours instead of stock photography?  I enjoyed going dark with these images in terms of lighting and coloring.

But I had to also balance it with a bright white image, as well.

Lastly, I asked him if I could objectify him and do a sexy image. LOL  Like I said, he was such a great sport with me.  To me, this is something for like a cover of a steamy romance novel.  And in case you are wondering, the tattoo says Veni Vidi Vici – I came, I saw, I conquered.

So, how was that for something different from me?  I gotta say, I LOVED working on these.  If you are looking for something amazing, something unlike anything else, we hope you will consider Firefly Nights Photography for your commercial and personal needs.
